Obituary
Kathryn Ruth Thorlakson (nee Graham)
Kathy was born February 21, 1954 in Lethbridge Alberta, the first child of Ken and Mary Graham. Although born in Lethbridge, Kathy and the family lived in Claresholm where her father had his own veterinary practice. The family moved to Lethbridge when Kathy was 15, and she graduated there from Winston Churchill High School. After graduation, Kathy attended Olds College, receiving her diploma in Fashion Merchandising, and was asked by the College to stay an extra year as the Assistant Dean of Women. Kathy then obtained employment as a store manager for Chez Cloth, a division of Robinson Stores. After a year, she left Chez Cloth to start a business in The Pas, MB called Opasquia Manufacturing, working with Indigenous women making beautiful parkas. Afterwards, Kathy moved to Edmonton and worked at Glenrose Hospital as a craft worker. In 1981, Kathy moved to Fort St John and worked at Peace Lutheran Care Home for the next 30 years. Kathy and Steve Thorlakson met in 1982 and fell in love. They were married in 1984, and were blessed with their son Trevor in 1987 and daughter Meagan in 1993. Kathy retired in 2014 after a fulfilling career in a wide variety of roles. Kathy was deeply loved by her friends, family, and community alike.
Kathy is survived by her husband Steve, son Trevor (Megan), daughter Meagan (Jeffrey), stepdaughter Shannon (Shawn), stepdaughter Jenn (Isaac), and six grandchildren. Also her father Ken, siblings Janet (Ken), Michael (Stephen) and Richard (Sharon), predeceased by her mother Mary.
