I met Kathy through Operation Christmas Child. She was incredibly kind and a great example of compassion and love. I really only saw her once a year when working on shoeboxes and I didn't think I made an impression but somehow she always remembered me and that made me feel loved. She will be missed.

The world will be a little sadder and a whole lot colder now Kathy had gone .She was such a unique and special person . I worked with her for 20 years at the care home , she just seemed to float above all the crazy stuff and treat everyone in the same way. She definitely made the world a better place .

A Memorial tree was ordered in memory of Kathy Thorlakson by Pat Spruyt. Plant a TreeI met Kathy at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. We were having a treatment together and had to stay over night at the hospital. My life was blessed that evening as we chatted, laughed and found we had so much in common. Our appointments didnt always coincide but we kept up by phone, met in Red Deer for more laughs and Kathy stayed over here in Rocky once on her way to see her parents. When Kathy found out I was travelling with a group to Egypt she jumped at the chance to join me. What a hoot we had. She roomed with me, making her famous tea each evening before bed. We road camels, saw the pyramids, cruised down the Nile, ate amazing foods, and played hide and seek among the stone towers in Luxor. Kathy was great at bargaining with the locals at markets. We stuck our toes in the Dead Sea, walked through pouring rain to see the Red stone ruins at Petra and had facials at the spa in our hotel in Petra. I have been so blessed to have shared so many wonderful memories with a brave women who never gave up, dedicated her life to others and taught me so much about being selfless and brave, all the while fighting her own health battles. Ill miss you Kathy, but looking for more adventures when God calls me to join you and the other angels someday.Love PatPat Spruyt

I met Kathy soon after she arrived in Fort St John and we became good friends. During the summers we would go bike riding and check out gardens getting ideas for our own yards. Also spent time at the care home once a week helping with the bingo games. We moved away from the north but over the years we kept in touch. My greatest memory will be our last long recent phone conversation. She will be missed. Love and hugs to you Steve and your family.

Condolences and Love to you and your family my friend, so sad to end of any life, but Kathy was a kind and loving person, taken too soon. It was so good to catch up in Kelowna a few years ago, it was just like old times in Fort St. John. The pain of a lost friend is felt strongly here in Australia, my thoughts and love to you and yours Steve. We both know and can relate to this loss, I wish I was there to give you and the family a hug and some love. All the best from Brisbane Australia
