Obituary of Olga Kowalchuk

<p>The family of Olga Kowalchuk of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge, widow of Bill Kowalchuk sadly announce her passing on Monday, December 5, 2022. Olga was 96 years of age.</p><p>The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 11:00a.m. from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Basil Malowany officiating.</p><p>Relatives & friends wishing to support the family virtually may do so by clicking the link beginning at 10:45a.m.<a href="http://www.facebook.com/yourfamilylikeapartofours/videos"> https://www.facebook.com/yourfamilylikeapartofours/videos</a></p><p>The interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery.</p><p>Memorials in memory of Olga may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery Fund or Church Memorial Fund (Box 340, Itna, SK S0A 1N0) as gifts of remembrance.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify">It is with great sadness that we announce Olga Kowalchuk entered her eternal rest peacefully at age of 96 on Monday Dec 5th, 2022 at the Ituna Pioneer Lodge.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Olga was the eldest daughter of Mike and Annie (nee Zabinski) Kozey.&nbsp; Born May 4th, 1926 in the Goodeve district.&nbsp; Olga attended Strijj School, following her schooling she remained and helped on the family farm.</p><p style="text-align:justify">She met Bill Kowalchuk when he returned from the army.&nbsp; They were married Sept 1, 1946.&nbsp; They bought land from brother Joe Kowalchuk and farmed for 6 years.&nbsp; In 1952 Bill and Olga sold their land and with brother-in-law Nick and sister Sophie moved to Ituna and built a locker plant & abattoir.&nbsp; They later added a grocery store.&nbsp; They retired 33 years later when they sold the store in 1985.&nbsp; Bill also passed away in June 1985.</p><p>During the years they were in business they travelled to many parts of Canada and U.S.A including Hawaii.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Her two most important things in her life were that she loved going to church every Sunday and early mornings.&nbsp; Also her unconditional love, interest and concern for her family.&nbsp; She was always ready to help, to advise and be there for any of them at any time.&nbsp; She always had a ready supply of perogies and apple pies for her grandchildren.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Olga loved curling and competed in many district bonspiels.</p><p style="text-align:justify">She was much involved in the social club and through the years served on all positions of the executive.&nbsp; She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women&rsquo;s league, served on the executive, helped with catering and bingos.</p><p style="text-align:justify">She enjoyed reading, knitting, cards and bingo.&nbsp; She was passionate about sports and keeping up with politics.</p><p style="text-align:justify">She took great pride in keeping her hedge trimmed, grass cut and flowers blooming for everyone to enjoy as they passed by.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Throughout her life she had an incredible bond with her sister Sophie.&nbsp; They always discussed, worked and often travelled together.&nbsp; They were always there for each other and for their families.</p><p style="text-align:justify">She is lovingly remembered by her sister Sophie (nee Kozey) Kowalchuk, brother Eugene (Dianne) Kozey, sister-in-law Annie (Byski) Kozey, daughter Linda (Andrew) Artymowicz, son Donald (Audrey) Kowalchuk, & son Terrence & (Barbara) Kowalchuk.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Seven grandchildren: Michael (Tannis) Artymowicz, Shawn Kowalchuk, Kimberly (Kevin) Rowan, Sheri Kowalchuk (Rashid Abdalkadar), Bradley Kowalchuk, Anne (Kevin) Plettenberg and Kevin (Nicole) Kowalchuk.</p><p style="text-align:justify">Thirteen great-grandchildren: Zachary & Morgan Artymowicz, Desirae & Zorya Rowan, Zayne, Zachary, Maks & Ian Abdalkadar, Kaden Kowalchuk, Westin, Beckett, Hendrix Plettenberg & Frankie Kowalchuk.</p><p style="text-align:justify">As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, in laws, and friends who will fondly remember her.</p><p>Olga is predeceased by her husband William Kowalchuk, parents Michael and Annie Kozey, father & mother in law Wasyl & Agnes (nee Englot) Kowalchuk, brother William Kozey and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, in laws, and friends.</p>
