Obituary of Thelma Eason

Mrs. Thelma Cherry Eason, age 82,of 2204 West Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at the Albemarle Hospital. Mrs. Eason, a native of Hertford County, NC, was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Cherry and Annie Mitchell Cherry, the wife of James Eason of Ahoskie, NC, and was the widow Gussie Edwards. She was a retired housekeeper at Robert L. Van High School in Ahoskie, a retired NC State employee and a Baptist. Besides her husband, she is survived by five daughters, Thelma Sherrod of Elizabeth City, Barbara Edwards of White Plains, NY, Sharon Ann Edwards, of CT, Gloria Edwards and Gail Eason, both of Ahoskie, NC; six sons, Gussie Edwards, Jr., Lawrence Edwards, and Gary Eason, all of Ahoskie, NC, Tommy Edwards and Levarn Edwards, both of Ossining, NY, and Timmy Eason of Rocky Mount, NC; three sisters, Annie Ruth Sessoms of Colerain, NC, Shirley Johnson and Foy Cherry both of NY; one brother, Sherman Cherry of GA; forty six grandchildren; and forty four great grand children. She was predeceased by two daughters, Christine Edwards and Addie Mae Bailey; two sisters, Mary Mitchell and Pauline Lewter; and four brothers, Solomon Cherry, Clyde Cherry, Lawrence Cherry, and Alex Cherry. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with Brother Kenneth Swyers officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, April 11, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and at other times at the residence of the daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Roosevelt Sherrod, 2204 West Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC.
