My thoughts and prayers are with Terry and the family. Mrs. Julia has always been a very special person to me and my daughter Tia. I met her when Terry was working/coaching in Currituck. She played an important role in those students when Terry was coaching. She became my seamstress and remained until the end. When I couldn’t get up w/her, I called Terry and that’s how I found out she was sick. she was a very sweet, loving, caring and hardworking person. I am going to miss my seamstress(top notched) and my friend.

Mrs. Julia was such a wonderful woman I was glad to know for close to 30 years from the time I first met her at the Outer Banks Women’s Club craft shows. Over the years at the shows, at the alteration shop and other spots along the way I got to know her more and she was always so kind, caring and encouraging. I saw her last the end August and she always had a hug and kind word to share even though she said the year had been a rough one. She will certainly be missed. My heartfelt prayers are with her family and friends during this sad time. God bless you all.

She all be missed by many and was loved by all that knew her. If you didn’t want to know the truth than you had better not ask Mrs. Julia. I never saw her that she didn’t throw those arms around me and give me a big hug. She was one special lady and certainly one that gave of herself with no expectation of anything in return!!!! She loved her family, her church, The Outer Banks Women’s club, and all of Dare County!!!! Godspeed Mrs. Julia. She left her family a great legacy!!!

This community will desperately miss this sweet, beautiful woman. She made such an impression on us the first time we ever met her and to look over on Sunday mornings and not see her sitting in her spot is going to be heart breaking. Fly high Julia and I hope God has his house in order because if he doesn’t, I’m sure you will get it straight for Him. We love you.

During my time at Colington Methodist, Julia Haywood scared me. When getting work uniforms tailored by her, she inspired fear! As I came to know her, I realized that her strength of heart and conviction of soul was nothing to fear. Furthermore, I learned that her dedication to family and community was borne of love. She was a true “native,” and her stories – thank God – will live on through print and video. Folks as strong as Julia lead me to believe that the soul exists. It MUST exist, because personality that strong exists, and that which exists cannot cease to be. So, sadly for us, life has changed, but is has not ended. May Julia be shielded in mercy and surrounded in love, where sorrow and pain are no more, but life everlasting. Julia: Look down on us with the Lord in mercy, and pray for us. We’ll see you on the other side.
