Obituary of Alwin Jakob Thomas
Obituary
We are sad to announce the death of our brother, Alwin, in Fort St. John, BC. He was the fourth of eight children. Alwin, along with his parents and siblings, arrived in Ottawa, Canada from Germany in 1962.
Alwin went to school in Ottawa, and then learned the Steam Pipe Insulation Trade. In the early 70's, he was transferred to BC where he furthered his trade experience and became a member of the BC Insulations Union Local 118. In 1983 he settled into Fort St. John and made his home there.
Alwin was an avid reader and had a large variety of interests and skills. He loved building and fixing things. He also loved being in nature and camping, and enjoyed gold panning, kayaking, and skiing.
Alwin was predeceased by his parents, Alwin and Hildegard Thomas (Galler); his older brother Winfried and younger brothers Benedict and Eugenio.
Alwin will be missed by his four sisters, Mechthilde Dowd (Owen, deceased), Beate Ziebarth (Paul), Michaele Morris, and Felicitas Grant (D'Arcy) all of Ottawa; sister-in-law Andrea Thomas of Germany; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in Canada and Germany.
We will dearly miss him and his sense of humour and ready, hearty laugh. We console ourselves with the firm belief that he is resting in God and is reunited with his beloved parents and brothers. May he truly rest in peace.
We won't forget you, Alwin.
