I will miss her good-natured warmth and exuberance, particularly during our shared Christmas celebrations. I will recall, with fondness, her engaging personality when discussing current events. I will cherish her ready humour and sense of the absurd. I will continue to respect her fervent belief in Catholicism and her desire to participate in the political process. I admire her courageous capacity to network in the service of earning a livelihood. Above all, I recognize her capacity as an artist and how she creatively expressed herself in everything she did. Unless I miss my guess, Marthe, you are up there right now colouring the clouds in pleasing pastel hues for all of us to admire.

I have known Marthe for almost 40 years. As we both loved drawing and painting, we sometimes went to the countryside to sketch. We both participated in an annual exhibition in Ottawa and, for a number of years, we met every week to paint with another group of artist friends. Marthe was also a writer who had a strong presence on Catholic blogs. She was equally interested in social justice and political commitment. This serious aspect of her personality did not prevent her from possessing a delightful sense of humour, which filled most of our meetings with fun and joy.

I had the opportunity to share studio space in a painting studio with Marthe in the 1990's I will always remember her for her unique personality and spunk. She was a forceful character with a delightful creative spirit. We had some good times together and even shared a small exhibition in Almonte with a couple of other painters.

I knew Martha through the Russell Writers' Club (WIN) at the library. She was a well read and a kind soul. So sorry to hear the sad news. I think she had a rather tough life and valued her friendships. Thinking of her friends and family.

Une femme chaleureuse qui fréquentait notre magasin pour de la nourriture pour sa chatte, toujours tellement plaisante et enthousiaste a converser.
Repose en paix!
