Obituary of John H. Cox, Sr.

VALLEY FALLS - John H. Cox, Sr., 71, of Valley Falls, entered into rest on November 9, 2022, following a long illness. The son of the late Ray and Mary (Blair) Cox, John was born on February 7, 1951, in Albany, New York. He was raised in rural Rensselaer County, specifically New Lebanon, Stephentown and New Brainard, New York. Mr. Cox was a graduate of Averill Park High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. in 1969 and received an honorable discharge for his faithful service in 1972. John was formerly employed for 30 years as a Crane Operator with the Watervliet Arsenal, retiring in 2010. John will be warmly remembered as a family man, who cherished his time with his loved ones. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 37 years, Sandra M. (Forette) Cox, whom he married on June 15, 1985, in Troy, New York. He was the devoted father of: John H. (Penny) Cox, Jr., David (Kayleigh) Cox and Tammie Cox (Terry Maxon). Cherished grandfather of: Kelly Hill, Cody Cox, Kevin Cox, Lara Cox, Jayden Hasan, James Cox, Tyler Cox, Jenna Maxon and Alivia Maxon. He was also great grandfather to 5. He was the dear brother of: Donna Lecuyer, Mary Drake, Laura Cox, George Cox and Robert Cox. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by one of his brothers, Frederick Cox. Relatives and Friends are invited to gather and celebrate the life of John H. Cox, Sr. on Sunday, November 13th from 4-7PM in The Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) in Troy. A Funeral Service will begin at 6PM in the funeral home. Interment, with Military Honors, will be private for the immediate family in St. Peter's Cemetery, Troy.
