Obituary of Janet Romiens

Our family is saddened to announce the passing of our mom, Jan Romiens (nee Vezina), at the age of 80, on June 9, 2023. She is finally resting peacefully. Dear mother to John Romiens (Stacy) and Jennifer McGregor (Jason), sweet “Gran” to Madelyn and Maggie and step-gran to Kayla and Austin. Sister to Bill and Carol Vezina (London). Mom had a lifelong passion for learning, reading books and discussing current events. She was a kind and compassionate educator who spent her 28 year career with the GECDSB, teaching high school science at Riverside and Walkerville SS. Her true calling came towards the end of her career, where she was able to teach and nurture her community living students with love. Upon retirement, Jan enjoyed volunteering at the Humane Society, spending hours browsing craft/book stores, and tackling her many sewing and quilting projects. She especially looked forward to the legendary “hours long” weekly coffee nights with her devoted lifelong girlfriends Sue, Bonnie and Maureen. Thank you to the caring staff at The Village of Aspen Lake for taking care of mom for so many years. Aspen Lake was her “home” and she considered the staff and residents her extended family. The staff on 5th floor Met were so compassionate and patient with all of us in mom’s final days. Mom, your long struggle is over. Wherever you are, your body has new strength and no limits. Walk, run, dance, laugh, travel the world, and eat all the steak and shrimp you possibly can. We will love you always. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Humane Society of Windsor would be appreciated. As per mom’s wishes, the family will hold a private service to celebrate her life.
