When I joined Glenwood United Church, services were always more profound when Zoli would solo with his very rich voice, or when he would sing and play 'fiddle' with the Grand Marais Ditch Boys. Don remembers Zoli singing O Holy Night on a snowy Christmas Eve with Rev. Lindsey in the pulpit. Don fondly remembers Zoli giving him a warm hug at Julie's celebration service and thanking him for all the guidance given to Julie. Zoli's unique character will be remembered forever.

It is with deep sadness that I reflect on the loss of Zoltan Veres, a truly kind and compassionate soul. As a fellow Slovak and Hungarian, I had the privilege of connecting with him through our shared love for music at Mindszenty Hall functions. He was consistently thoughtful and generous in his interactions, as exemplified by his assistance during Aunt Eta's funeral mass. His unwavering faith enabled him to gracefully spread wisdom and optimism throughout his community. Zoltan's gentle and creative spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

I will always remember Grandpa Zoli’s charisma, kindness, and boundless energy. Though my brother, sister, and I were step-grandchildren to him, he never treated us as anything other than family. I know my life is so much richer for it.
Thank you, Grandpa, for singing to us, and for all of the sleepovers when we were young. Thank you for easy smiles and big hugs every chance we could get. Thank you for the beautiful eulogy at Kevin’s funeral. But most of all, thank you for the love you always gave unconditionally.

I met Zoli at the Hungarian-American Cultural Center as I was playing the piano and he was singing. He quickly asked me to come to Mindszenty Hall to accompany him while he led participants in the beautiful folk songs of Hungary which began for me a long tradition of musically participating in many wonderful events at the Center.
We shared so many musical memories as he often traveled to Detroit for my performances - most notably when I performed the Liszt Hungarian Fantasy with the Macomb Symphony and he helped organize a display of Hungarian artifacts in the lobby and, of course, sang the Hungarian National Anthem with the orchestra. When he wanted a celebration for Liszt's 200th birthday in 2011, I came across the border with my soprano and tenor friends to add to the solo piano pieces I would be performing.
Since I had often told him and Erzsebet about the Hungarian Museum in Cleveland where my cousin was a volunteer, he arranged for a group of Hungarians to meet us in Cleveland where we visited the museum, St Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church (the 1st Hungarian Catholic church in America), the cemetery where his father was buried, a wonderful concert of the Pecs Children's Choir and, of course, some good Hungarian food.
More socially, Zoli and Erzsebet often joined my family at our traditional Labor Day celebration at the Schmitt's cottage on Lake Ste Clair where they always brought wonderful Hungarian goodies to add to our sumptuous meals.
Zoli and Erzsebet added so much to my appreciation of the Hungarian side of my lineage and I am forever grateful for their wonderful presence in my life.

Dear Zoli "bátyám" : we have worked together many years on numerous occasions on food sales, sausage sales, Carrousels, etc. and all through those years you made a priority to know people, who came to our Cultural Center and supported us. You were the welcoming committee, and knew everybody by name. You called in the help personaly for different occasions, and organized everything. You have done more for the Hungarian community, than anybody else. For that we'll always honour you and remember you... Rest in peace, Zoli
Sincerely your good friend

Zoli bacsi was a great person! He was a treasured friend to my beloved parents (Gyula and Dianna Pajer), and spent many days at their house, often leaving his gloves there. I often wondered if he did it on purpose, just so that he'd have to go back and visit again. Lol I so appreciated him honoring my mother at her funeral 5 years ago, by singing her favourite hymn. He spoke so beautifully about both of them, and I will always treasure that.
I loved Zoli bacsi's sense of humor. He always bragged about how good looking he was and that all the women were always fawning over him. He was quite the jokester. He was also very talented with his knack of public speaking and his gift of music. He helped so many people, especially all the new Hungarians that needed help with status. He was so proud of his Hungarian heritage. I hope all his hard work and dedication will keep the Hungarian community strong in future years to come.
He is now deserving of his rest with our Heavenly Father and being reunited with his beloved Erzsike neni and daughter Julie.
Zoli bacsi, you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace!

I love Zolie. When my father first came to Windsor from Czechoslovakia in 1930’s, he lived with Zolie’s parents - they were so kind & generous to open their home to him. Their home was small, so my father and Zolie shared a bed. My father shared many funny stories of their nights together . Zolie became our families life long friend and he sang at my mothers funeral which brought tears to everyone’s eyes when he sang in Hungarian- There’s no one like my mother. I loved his spirit and positivity every time I visited the Minszenty Hall in the last 20 years & we always chuckled about my fathers bedtime antics with him as a young boy. I loved Zolie & am sad to know he has left our lives but his lasting memory will forever be a part of my life.
