Obituary of Leonard Bessette

Leonard J. Bessette We are deeply heartbroken to announce the passing of our father Leonard J. Bessette on May 15, 2023 at the age of 78 years, surrounded by family. Leonard was the son of the late Edmond Bessette, and late Stella Bessette (Bondy). Father of Diane Bessette (Nicholson), Tracy Bessette (Gregson), Don Gregson, and late Leonard Bessette Jr. Leonard will be missed by his four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, he was known as Poppy and Papa Bopa-louie. Leonard was dedicated to his AA meetings, with 46 years of sobriety. If you needed Len he was there for anyone at anytime of the day, to chat, have coffee – he dedicated his time to helping people. He was a social butterfly. He spent many years volunteering At Windsor County Jail counselling adult and youth and also on weekends at Goderich Blue Water Correctional Centre. Len retired from Chrysler and Vet’s Cab. He had his serious side, but had an amazing fun side – with a great chuckle and grin. We all know that grin. Leonard had suffered a battle with dementia, that over time had taken over and impacted his health. He is no longer suffering and is at Peace. A special thank you goes to the nursing home during the last few months, for their kindness and care over his stay. The compassion during his last moments were very heartfelt. Especially nurse, Shane- you helped us get through this and wish you could have heard his stories, he like to talk and tell stories for hours. The entire staff on Dad’s floor were amazing. Dad, shall you forever rest in peace, always and forever- you will be with us!
