Obituary of Frieda Dyck
May 27, 1938 ~ Nov 21, 2022
It is with great sadness, but with thanks to God for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and good friend to many, Frieda Katie Dyck, on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the age of 84 years.
Frieda was born on the family farm in Yarrow to Dietrich and Katharina Fast on May 27, 1938. Her regular schooling was supplemented with German language classes on Saturdays. Frieda had many fond memories of raspberry picking on the Yarrow acreage where she grew up as well as later in life when her father hired her to pick as she could out pick the others.
In 1956 she met and married the love of her life, Henry. The family started with Diana and fifteen months later Janet and twenty months later Beverly. Frieda and Henry worked on dairy farms in the Fraser Valley before purchasing their own farm in Agassiz. With a family to feed Henry took on another job while Frieda milked on the home farm, all the while caring for three young girls. Teresa and Dale were born three years apart to complete the family.
Frieda also worked at the Harrison Hotel laundry as well as other hospitality jobs in Agassiz and later in Dawson Creek. She was a founding member of the Harrison Gospel Chapel and later transferred her membership to Dawson Creek. In Dawson Creek Mom enjoyed gardening, helping with the beef farming and was involved in the community with the Womens Institute.
Frieda was predeceased by her husband Henry; her parents; sister Gloria and brothers George and Harry; sons-in-law Lloyd Riemersma and Hildor Wendland.
Frieda leaves to mourn her daughters Diana, Janet, Bev, Teresa (Tom Scarff); son Dale (Melissa); 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; her sister Hilda; sister-in-law Frieda; and stepbrother Henry (Carol).
A Visitation for Frieda will be held at Reynars Funeral Home on November 28, 2022 from 11:00am -12:00pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00pm. Pauline Haycock will officiate. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Frieda to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), Box 9410 STN Terminal, Vancouver, BC, V6B 9Z9.
Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
