Obituary of Shirley Carriere
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Grace Carriere (nee Jenner), a resident of Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the age of 87 years
Mom was born on Friday, February 15, 1935, in Princeton, British Columbia, to Thomas and Ivy Jenner. She was the youngest of five children and grew up with four older brothers (Phillip, Melvin, Vernon, and Donald). In 1936 her mother Ivy passed away and Thomas remarried Ivys cousin Evelyn in the following years.
Shirley grew up and became a schoolteacher like her stepmother. In 1956, after moving to Vanderhoof, British Columbia, she met the love of her life Denis Carriere. They were married in 1957 and made their home there. In 1960, their son Thomas was born, followed by another son, Brian, in 1961. Shortly after Brian was born, the family moved to Prince George where Mom continued with her teaching career.
In 1970 Mom and Dad moved to Dawson Creek, British Columbia. She retired from teaching and spent time raising her boys, teaching piano in her home, and running the concession at the Dawson Creek Memorial Arena. Ten years later, the new empty-nesters moved to Kamloops, British Columbia after Denis received a new position there.
In Kamloops, Mom was actively involved with the Ladies of the Nile and piano teaching. After Denis retired, they spent their time travelling, gardening, and enjoying the house and pool in Kamloops. They lived in the same house until 2016 when Denis passed away after suffering a second stroke shortly after their 60th Wedding Anniversary. In 2017, Mom moved back to Dawson Creek, British Columbia to be closer to her son Brian.
She moved into a small apartment in Dawson Creek and met her two good friends Brenda and Marian. The three ladies enjoyed suppers and movie nights together. Mom began to show symptoms of dementia, and these were manifested after her son Brian passed away in January of 2020. Mom continued to live in her apartment with support of her two good friends. In May 2021, she moved to Rotary Manor to ensure that she was given the best care possible. It was here that she passed.
Shirley was predeceased by her father Thomas; mother Ivy; stepmother Evelyn; husband Denis; and son Brian (Elaine). She is survived by her son Thomas (Lenora) and their children (Jay and Rachel); her daughter in law Elaine and her children (Lincoln, Jennifer, Whitney, Trevor and Brianna); and ten great grandchildren.
Shirleys family will announce a Celebration of Life at a later date.
For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Shirley to the charity of your choice.
Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home and Crematorium
