Obituary of Elizabeth (van Oostenrijk) Laurin
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on April 23, 2023, three days prior to her 104th birthday on April 26, 2023. Reunited with her loving husband Marcel (1994), dear mother of Marcella Ward (Clairmont), Loretta Mayea (Larry) and Ron Laurin (Janice). Oma to Derek, Chad, Joshua, Shannon, Adam, and Tiffany. Great Oma to Ashlynn, Andrew, Dylan, Arielle, Jaxon, Rylee, Austen and Hannah. Mom was our family historian, born during the Spanish Flu in the Netherlands. She lived though WWII and survived the hunger winter of 1944-45. She met her Canadian soldier 2 days after liberation and they were married 10 months later. She was one of many war brides that set sail to Canada aboard the Queen Mary. Where she enjoyed a cigarette on the deck with Prime Minister Mackenzie King and landed at Pier 21 in Halifax. From where they went on to have a fulfilled life in Windsor ON. She was an avid reader and gardener, known as the plant lady in the neighbourhood. People were always amazed how knowledgeable she was, she always said "it's just that I know a little about a lot"! She will always be missed and is forever in our hearts. As per Elizabeth’s wishes cremation has taken place, arrangements entrusted to SIMPLE CHOICE (Wyandotte) 519-254-2585. Donations would be appreciated to Windsor Humane Society. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.simplechoicecremation.ca
