Q: What will you miss most about Lorenz?
A: I will miss his smiling face. He was alway welcoming from the time I met him 24 years ago. There was always room for one more at his table. I will miss his great sense of humor. I will miss the delicious food that he and Eva made from scratch.
My sincere condolences to the entire Dettlinger family. ❤️

Uncle Lorenz was my mother's cousin - so mine too, but "once removed". I remember his German accent and dialect, typical of the Tovarnik Dettlingers. Years ago, he flew to Vancouver to meet me when I was visiting Canada and we went to a wonderful ice hockey match with Aaron and Robert. In July 2023 I was delighted he recognised me and we laughed and sang and prayed together in German. Bleib in ewige Ruhe! Zoltan Endre

I remember Lorenz from his days at the old market . My dad was a customer for his Eagle Grill restaurant. Then his son Robert played soccer for WDLowe when I coached and he was a super fan. I wish him peace in the afterlife and condolences to his family. John Vacratsis

We extend our sincere condolences to the Dettlinger family at this very sad time. His smile and kind heart will be deeply missed. When I look back 40 plus years and I reminisce about our games at Wigle Park against our arch rivals The Croats, the countless tournaments in Michigan and Ohio, the hundreds of practices at the club, followed by a few pitchers of beer, Lawrence was always there supporting "The Boys." He was such a huge part of the Teutonia family and his legacy will endure for many years to come. His dedication and support was unmatched. I feel honoured and blessed to have known Lawrence and his entire family for so many years. Lawrence will always be remembered with great fondness. We raise a pint of beer in one hand and pepperoni in the other and toast the memory of Lawrence. Prosit.

I would like to personally send my condolences to the Dettlinger family and share a story about Lawrence that few people would know. When I moved to Windsor from British Columbia for in the late 80’s I was introduced to Lawrence by my husband Rob. He was the most generous and kind hearted person I had the privilege of meeting. We lived downtown at the time and would frequent the Windsor Market every Saturday and we would always stop in to say hi to Lawerence. I grew up as a vegetarian and it took some convincing on Lawrence’s part to convince me that I needed more meat in my diet. He was very generous with his cuts of meat for Rob but he would always take me aside and wrap a separate package of pepperonis or sausages different from the ones he gave Rob. He would claim that these were the “real good ones” unlike the ones he gave my husband. This is how I remember Lawrence, caring, considerate, and certainly tried to make everyone feel special. I have so many fond memories of Windsor and especially the ones who took kindly to the “Westerners”.
