Obituary of James "Jim" Mitchell
James (Jim) Mitchell passed away peacefully surrounded by love on December 31, 2022 in Windsor, Ontario at the age of 84, after a brief illness. In passing he joins his much adored parents Alvin & Dorothy Mitchell. Jim was also predeceased by his sister Carol and his son Paul. He is survived by his brother John (Sandra) of Toronto, and sister Barbara Harrison (Joe) of Stoney Creek, and children Deborah, William, Christopher, and Pamela as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Uncle to Cheryl Mitchell (Don) and David Mitchell (Audrey). Jim was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario and spent his teen years working part-time at his father’s driving range, where he developed a lifelong love for the game of golf. He played in golf leagues in Windsor, Oakville and Sarasota, until the age of 80 when it became impossible to break 100. In his retirement in Sarasota, he worked at Palm Aire Golf Club where he made many friends, before returning to the Windsor area and living most recently in Kingsville. Jim enjoyed a 30-year career with Ford of Canada, first in Windsor, for 5 years, and then another 25 years in Oakville before retiring in 1990. Jim will be remembered for his love of all team sports, on which he was known to occasionally place small bets, usually on his favourite Detroit Red Wings or Detroit Tigers, and his love of gardening and feeding the birds in his yard. Since returning to the Windsor area, Jim regularly enjoyed playing cards with friends at the RC Legion in Kingsville, and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral. Arrangements entrusted to Simple Choice Cremation (Dougall) 519-254-2585. Donations in Jim’s memory may be sent to Family Respite Services of Windsor.
