Obituary of Muriel Elizabeth "Liz" Norris

It is with saddened hearts that the family of Muriel “Liz” Elizabeth Norris (nee Wyman) announces her passing on December 29th, 2022, at the age of 79. Beloved wife to James “Jim”, devoted mother to Natalie (Geoff) Bastow and Nadine (Cale) Nicholson, and fabulous “Gran” to Keely and Kennedy Bastow. Liz, the fourth of five children of Ernest and Katherine Wyman, is survived by her brother Bill Wyman, sisters Joan MacCulloch, Beverly Oxford, Sheila Woodley, and by her sisters-in-law, Rebecca Norris and Christine Chartrand. Liz was born on August 8, 1943, in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and moved to Prescott Ontario when she was 14. Liz and Jim were high school sweethearts and married on January 29th, 1966. In 1972, Liz and Jim moved to Cedar Island where they raised their family and have remained for over 50 years. Liz and Jim’s move to Cedar Island sparked their adventures in sailboat racing and cruising. Liz distinguished herself as the longest active female member of CIYC still sailing and racing. Over the years, Liz served as the Race Committee Chairman, Property Chairman, and regularly lead the Committee Boat for major regattas. Their travel took them to over 40 countries including an incredible Atlantic crossing in 2014. Liz will be remembered for her humor, quick wit and her patience and kindness that is an example to us all. Liz passed peacefully surrounded by family at Sun Parlour Home in Leamington, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. A Celebration of Life will take place on January 7, 2023 at Cedar Island Yacht Club from 1 - 4 pm.
