<p>The family of Louis Derks of Melville, beloved husband of Femmy Derks, sadly announce his passing on February 4, 2023. He was the first of eight children. When he was twelve, he moved with his family to the Noordoostpolder (North). Louis studied farming in school then he served in the army for one year. Afterwards he worked as a farmer.</p><p style="text-align:justify">&nbsp; In 1974 he married Femmy and together they had four boys. During that time, in 1982, Louis took over his family&rsquo;s farm. Louis and his wife Femmy worked tirelessly to build their own family farm. They grew many types of flowers, potatoes, sugar beets, carrots, and onions.</p><p style="text-align:justify">&nbsp; In the late 1990&rsquo;s Louis fell in love with Canada when they were visiting for their 25th wedding anniversary. Louis and Femmy moved their family to Canada a few years later. They bought a grain farm near Melville Sk. Louis retired from farming in 2011 and let his boys carry on their family farm.</p><p style="text-align:justify">&nbsp; In the Netherlands Louis loved socializing, fishing, hunting, breeding show jumping horses and their annual winter ski trip. In Canada he loved fishing, boating, keeping up with the world on his laptop and the great open skies on his farm. He loved watching his grandchildren play in the house and on the deck, which was his favourite spot.</p><p style="text-align:justify">&nbsp; Louis wife, children and grandchildren will greatly miss his quiet presence. RIP opa.</p>
