Craig Wallebeck

Obituary of Craig Arthur Wallebeck

Craig Wallebeck was born and raised in Alberta and for much of his life he thought of himself as a true son of Calgary cowtown. But it was up to fortune to allow him to follow his broadcasting dreams across the breadth of the country. Craig worked in Red Deer, Peace River, Prince George, High River, Prince Albert, Thunder Bay, Regina and finally Yorkton. He became the consummate news anchor whose sense of professionalism went far beyond simply reading the news. Craig had an overwhelming sense of providing the best of most accurate news to the local listener. His high standards helped to create the image of "The Iron Man of Saskatchewan Broadcasting".

Craig as an individual loved his family passionately, and shared with them creativity, humour, and steadfastness when tragedy arose, such as when his son Carl died. He loved Manchester United, Led Zeppelin, and all music. Craig enjoyed cooking for his family and friends as this was the way he showed his affection. Very humble about his achievements, which were many, he was wont to say that his best professional career experience took place here in Yorkton, and that GX94 liberated the man. Craig Wallebeck will be greatly missed.

The Memorial Service was held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. Will Wallebeck shared words of remembrance. Musical selections played were “Another Brick In The Wall” by Pink Floyd and “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Will Wallebeck as urn bearer.

Memorial donations may be made to Bruno's Place as gifts of remembrance.
