I have such fond memories of knowing Allan from our many interactions at NSM (Selected) meetings, from the 80's forward. What a gracious, warm and funny man he was - utterly dedicated to our profession and among our brightest lights. Allan and that divine Colleen, whom I adored, together made such a terrific team and spread joy wherever they went. To Ray, Burton and all the Bailey family please accept my sincere sympathies on Allan's passing. I knew Allen my whole career in funeral service. In the 70s he had offered me a job at the funeral home but circumstances prevented me from accepting. He always had time for a chat whenever our paths crossed. Our profession has lost a true representative of what we represent.

My husband Fred and I met Allan on a Uniworld River Cruise of the Rhine and Moselle/Amsterdam to Basel in August of 2014. We were traveling with friends Lucille Stock and Hugh Wyatt. By good fortune we four met Allan and Brian Reid from Northern Ireland. They were dining together the first evening and agreed to dine with us the remainder of the trip. We enjoyed wonderful conversations as well as Allan and Brian debating the merits of red versus white wines, which they sampled each dinner. Ray, Crystal and family, please accept our condolences to you all. I have been away XC Skiing since Jan 2 and am just catching up on the Star papers, and am very shocked to see your dad's obit. I indeed remember him from past conventions and the like and always had a lot of respect for the "old guard", as a new member of the Funeral Profession. Now I am one of the old guard. We all strive to provide the same service to the families we are chosen to serve, and from what I know, your dad was very successful at that. A great example for you all to emulate. Fond memories of Mr.Bailey go back many years,when I
unexpectedly lost my Dad at the age of 16,as was the tradition in those days, someone was to sit through the night with the deceased,I chose to do that and Mr. Bailey,stayed with me the whole night and bought me breakfast the next morning.Helped me get through a very traumatic time in my life, will forever be grateful.

Deepest Sympathy to Allan†™s family.
His kindness and generosity to those whom he met was passed on again and again. He and Art had a special bond sharing favourite books and Political stories. I can tell of his love for community first hand; because of his first financial donation and his enthusiasm for our start-up Musical Theatre Group, he encouraged a floundering group to be very successful.

Our family is saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Bailey. He lived a very exemplary life with his family, friends, business, and was a true pillar in our community. He led by example, was very generous, and set the bar high in achieving life†™s expectations. This, all while being sincere, friendly, sympathetic, no matter what the occasion.
Ever since he opened his branch in Ituna he has made a significant positive impact on our family, and we are forever grateful to have our lives touched by this warm, caring, compassionate individual. As a child I remember the happiness he brought while he delivered a Christmas turkey and gift basket to our home.
Mr. Bailey was a mentor for us all in how to treat people with respect, dignity, and kindness. He earned respect from all those who knew him. The way he enjoyed life rubbed off on all of us and has touched us all. He will be missed. Eternal Memory.

My Dad was transferred to Calgary in 1974 and the first correspondence he received was a hand written letter from Allan with well wishes and a few words of wisdom and encouragement. I will never forget my first visit to Yorkton and the extra time Allan had for me to share stories of Colleen and family, the city, the funeral profession and Saskatchewan art - he went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and at ease - a gift he would share with me and his community over all his years. He was a very kind man and will be missed. Our sincere condolences.

Our families share many memories when you boys were young & lived down the street from the Laxdals .
We have always enjoyed your Dads company & have admired his many accomplishments over the years .. There are so many tributes to him so elegantly said , we couldn†™t do justice but will just say each & everyone is what we would have said about your Dad .
We were in Jaycees with your parents . The true quality of leadership was evident all those years ago .
We have a memory of your Dad we would like to share . I enclosed a picture of a card your Dad ( Ray ) sent to Heather after the StAndrews Good Friday Service April 19 , 1988. She sang a song called †œ It†™s Morning Now Peter†� .
Your Dad took the time to write this lovely note & post it . It arrived the morning Heather died !
We were so amazed that he took that time to encourage Heather & appreciate her contribution to the service . That was the kind of man your Dad was .
We have kept that lovely card for 35 years .
