Pauline Hudy

Obituary of Pauline Hudy

Pauline was born in Melville on Sept. 27, 1941 to Peter and Victoria (Osicki) Burant. She attended school at Happy Home until grade 9. She had many happy memories growing up on the farm. Pauline and her 2 sisters did the outside chores as there were many other sisters to do the cooking and baking. In the spring she would walk for miles with Evelyn and Anne to see the creeks and ravines running. It was a 3.5 mile walk one way to the little country store for 3 for 1 cent jawbreakers or a chocolate bar or drink for 5 cents. Threshing was her favourite time of year when they would carry out coffee and lunch to a big crew of working men. Pauline married the love of her life, Henry Hudy, on April 11, 1959. The first few years were hard with no running water, power or phone. Water was hauled from the dugout in the spring, or snow melted in the winter to wash dishes and clothes by hand. Cows had to be milked and meals made while raising 4 small children, JoAnne, Gwen, Neil and Andrea. In 1966 the family moved to their present farm and in 1974 got power and phone, and they dug a well. Adrian and Travis were born in this time. Pauline grew a large garden and raised chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. In 1981 they built a new house and on Jan. 1, 1982 they moved in. The first night in the new house was so hot they couldn’t sleep! June of that year brought running water, making life much easier. Life was always busy as a farmer’s wife. She enjoyed puzzle books, bird watching and flowers, especially petunias. She loved listening to music, especially Elvis, and played guitar. After the children grew up, Pauline still enjoyed baking and her children loved her pickles, cabbage rolls, perogies, scuffles and her specialty, pineapple delight. Forever the caregiver, she looked after Henry when his health started to decline until his passing in 2020. Pauline was also predeceased by her parents Peter and Victoria and sisters Rosalyn, Dorothy and Evelyn and daughter-in-law Cherrie. She leaves to mourn her passing, but celebrate her life, daughter JoAnne Hudy, daughter Gwen (Glen) Smith, son Neil Hudy, daughter Andrea Rosin, son Adrian (Tamara) Hudy, son Travis Hudy, sisters Frances, Vicky, Myrtle and Anne, and brother Peter, 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
