Obituary of Steve Karol

Mr. Steve Karol, beloved husband of Anne Karol of Kelliher, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 1998 at the Ituna and District Pioneer Lodge. He was 74 years of age. Steve Karol was born on August 15, 1923 in the Ukraine, a son to Nick and Mary (nee Strocjwas) Karol. Steve emigrated to Canada in 1928 with his family. The family spent time in the Beckingham and Johnson areas before they settled in the New Haven district. Steve attended school and helped his father on the farm. He later worked in the coal mines in British Columbia before he returned to farm with his father. On October 6, 1946 Steve was united in marriage to Anne Lekach at the Becjingham Ukrainian Catholic Church. Steve and Anne farmed on the family homestead where they raised their three children, Barry, Jeff and Geraldine. Dad and grandpa always enjoyed the company and laughter of his grandchildren and great grandchild. His famous comical remarks will always be rememered. He was a master at these and his timing was always perfect. Steve truly appreciated the outdoors and spent many days at his favorite passtime of fishing. Steve was predeceased by his mother Mary in 1970 and his father Nick in 1990. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his wife Anne of Kelliher; his three children, son Barry and his wife Irene of Kelliher and their children Tammy, and her son James, Cheryl, April and Robert; son Jeff and his wife Sharon of Kelliher and their children Jason, Marina (Derek) Wolfe and Jeremy, dauther Geri and her husband Don Kreway anf their son Kyle all of Regina. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, March 9, 1998 from St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kelliher with Very Rev. Fr. Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The cantor, Harry Kozakewich, led in the singing. Leonard Romanson was sacristian and Robert Karol served as crossbearer. The epistle readers were Marina Wolfe with brothers Jason and Jeremy Karol. Honourary bearers were all of Steve's grandchildren and great grandchildren. The interment followed in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens. A memorial luncheon followed the interment. Words of thanks and rememberence were conveyed by Kyle Kreway. Arrangements were entrusted to Baileys Funeral Home, Ituna and Yorkton. Interment Details Kelliher Memorial Gardens
