Obituary of George Graval

GRAVAL - Mr. George Graval, resident of Yorkton, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 92 years of age. George Graval was born on October 5, 1912 in the Insinger district of Saskatchewan; a son of John and Mary (nee Wolowidnyk) Graval. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Insinger. As most young men of that era had to do, George worked away from home, returning to the farm to help at the busy times of the year. On October 22, 1936 he was united in marriage to Katherine Skiehar at Yorkton. In 1937-38 the couple operated the hotel in Insinger before establishing a farm near the family homestead. George and Katherine farmed for many years until her death in 1965. After that time George continued to farm but spent the winter months with his children and also spent a couple of winters in Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario with his brother Allan. George worked as a bartender during his stay there, a job he very much enjoyed. He was a very sociable person, who enjoyed the company of others and meeting new people. In 1979 he retired from active farming and moved to Yorkton to make his home. He continued to help with seasonal work on the farm until 2000. Besides his wife Katherine, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Allan and Matt, and by a sister in infancy. He leaves to cherish his memory; two daughters: Ameryllis (Amy) and her husband Steve Dareichuk of Yorkton, and Delores and her husband Joe Roebuck of Yorkton; grandchildren: Kevin Dareichuk of Yorkton, Shayne Roebuck of Theodore (Shantelle Fandrey), Shannon (Brent) Mireau of Yorkton, and Tracey Roebuck of Saskatoon (Scott Baliski); great grandchildren Brooklyn and Lexie Mireau of Yorkton. Also a brother William and his wife Denise of Yorkton, and numerous other relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Monday evening, August 1, 2005 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. Rev. Father Roman Kocur officiated. Cantor, William Kozey, assisted by members of the parish choir, sang the responses. The crossbearer was Walter Semeniuk. The interment followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kevin Dareichuk, Shayne Roebuck, Brent Mireau, Scott Baliski, Walter Skiehar, and Dennis Skiehar serving as the casketbearers. A reception followed at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium, where granddaughters Tracey and Shannon gave a tribute to George and offered thanks on behalf of the family.
