YARMICHUK - Mr. Thomas Yarmichuk of Yorkton and formerly of the Insinger/Theodore district entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Kamsack Hospital, at the age of 84 years. Thomas was born on April 4, 1921 to Thomas Sr. and Katie Yarmichuk in the Insinger District and settled with his parents on the family farm. Thomas attended the Chernovitz School. Thomas married Dora Gawrelitza on October 5, 1941 and continued to farm in the Insinger district for over 30 years. In 1973 they moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan and retired from farming. While in Yorkton, Thomas worked for Morris Industries. While on the farm, Thomas would pick up cream cans from various farmers and haul them to the creamery in Yorkton as well worked on the threshing crews. In 1948 Thomas went to work in the lumber camps near Endeavor. In the early 50's Thomas served as a school trustee at the Oleksince School. Thomas also worked for the R.M. of Insinger in the late 50's; and was also a councilor for the R.M. of Insinger for about 6 years. During his retirement years, Thomas would never consider himself retired and he would assist Rex Goulden in the delivery of the Leader Post. This he did for about 13 years. Thomas loved to do a little carpentry work and built many Blue Martin houses. He also played in a band playing the accordion. Dora and Thomas were members of Mamornitz Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and when the church closed for a short time, they became members of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sheho, Saskatchewan then about 4-5 years later when the Mamornitz congregation reopened Thomas and Dora continued to actively support both congregations. Thomas was predeceased by: his father Thomas Sr. in 1969 ,his mother Katie in 1961. He was also predeceased by his wife Dora in 2003; by his son Gerald Yarmichuk in infancy and by his grandson Sheldon Stratichuk in 1986. Thomas was also predeceased by his brothers John and George in infancy and by his sisters Mary and Katie in infancy. Thomas was also predeceased by his brothers-in-law Matt Surkan, Nick Medelko, Nick Magas, Matt Derow and Alfred Onslow. Thomas leaves to celebrate and rejoice in his memory his daughter Viola and her husband Ron Rieger of Regina, Saskatchewan; sisters: Elsie Surkan of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; Doris Magas of Kelowna, B.C., Mary and her husband Magner Nelson of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Vicky and her husband Bill Snatinsky of Watson, Saskatchewan, Kay Onslow of Theodore, Saskatchewan; close friend Phyliss Langley of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; grandchildren: Clayton and his wife Jackie Stratichuk of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Cheryl and her husband Ken Kaban of Parkerview, Saskatchewan;great-grandchildren: Melissa Kaban and her special friend Kelly Grona of Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, Kyle Kaban of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Haley Stratichuk of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; numerous nieces and nephews and the many friends that knew him. The prayer service was held on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sheho, Saskatchewan with Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The palamar was Peter Unick and George Kitzan was the cross bearer. The responses to the service were sung by cantor, Katie Rudey and members of the parish choir. Daniel Dutchak and Steve Zaharia were the banner bearers. The interment followed in the Holy Trinity Parish Cemetery with grandchildren: Ken and Clayton Stratichuk, great grandson Kyle Kaban, nephews Rob and Richard Onslow and very close friend Rex Goulden serving as casket bearers. At the memorial luncheon reflections and remembrances of Tom's life were given by Rev. Slashinsky and Tom's daughter Viola. ETERNAL MEMORY! VICHNAYA PAMYAT!
