Obituary of Gilbert Lang

The family of Gilbert Lang, beloved husband of Louise, sadly announce his passing on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. He was 91 years of age. Gilbert Ralph Lang was born on May 7, 1931 to Mathew and Mary Lang (nee Keller) at Duff, SK. He was baptized at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Duff and confirmed his faith at Zion Lutheran Church at Nut Mountain, SK. As a young child his parents moved around and settled on a farm in the Nut Mountain area where he went to school. In 1951 he worked a job in Vancouver and then returned to SK and worked on a farm. Gilbert started working for SaskPower in 1953 at Lewvan, SK. During the first years with SaskPower he worked across most of southern Sask. Later in his career he took a position with Sask Power, Gas Division and continued to work for 32 years and retired in 1985. Gilbert married Louise Maurer on October 18, 1957, at St. Peters Lutheran Church at Duff, SK and moved to Humboldt, SK. They lived in Saskatoon and Regina and in 1963 moved to Yorkton and raised their three children. Together Gilbert and Louise enjoyed camping and going to music festivals. They also spent many winters in Weslaco, Texas. After his retirement he spent his summers helping his son Glenn on the farm. He always enjoyed getting the harvest in the bins. Gilbert enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He also enjoyed family gatherings, especially a wiener roast. In June of 2022, Gilbert’s health started to deteriorate which resulted in a short stay at Kamsack Nursing Home and in September was transferred to Yorkton Nursing Home - Wallace House. He looked forward to visits with family and friends and especially his great grandchildren. Gilbert passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022. Gilbert was predeceased by his parents Mathew and Mary; two sisters Marlene Jendrasheske and Alvina Morgan; his brother Elmer; sister-in-law Eleanor Niebergall; brother-in-law’s Magnus Berton, Andrew Morgan, Jim Lutz and Ervin Niebergall, nephew Richard Horgas and niece Janice Mehling. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise, three children; David Lang (Loverne), their children Rae Michelle (Mitch) and their children Leif and Otto, and Chad Lang; Glenn Lang (Barb), their children Ryan (Laura), Charmaine (Clay) and Logan (Brittany); Brenda Mehling (George), their children Tamara (Neal) and their children Tayton and Eve, Tyrel (Chrisitine) and their child Korra. Gilbert is also survived by his sister Wilmarie Lutz, brother-in-law Cliff (La Verne) Jendrasheske, sister-in-law’s Esther Horgas and Alvina Lang as well as many nieces and nephews that Gilbert was close to. We thank all of Gilbert’s family and friends for keeping in touch with him over the years both far and near. To the staff at Wallace House, thank you for providing the excellent comfort and care when he needed it. Thank you to Pastor Buck for the visits and officiating the service. Thank you to Bailey’s Funeral Home. Gilbert was blessed to have many family members and friends in his life, he will be missed. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 from Zion Lutheran Church Yorkton, Saskatchewan with Pastor Kai Buck officiating. Organist Verna Liebrecht led in the singing of the hymns. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Mark, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Chad Lang, Tyrel Mehling, Tamara Haberstock, Ryan Lang, Charmaine Busby and Rae Michelle Singleton serving as casket bearers. Memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church as gifts of remembrance. Service Details.
