Obituary of sylvia jean getlin

Sylvia Jean Hertel Getlin, 81, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in Pensacola, Florida. Sylvia was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she married and raised three children. She was a graduate of Deer Park High School and was still close to many of her high school classmates. In 1983, she moved to Atlanta, Ga., and she immersed herself in southern culture, especially southern cooking. It’s also where she picked up her love of quilting, each quilt hand pieced with love. Quilting became a lifelong passion, and she even made baby blankets she donated to police and fire houses for children in need. It was in Georgia where she began working in engineering firms and continued until her retirement. She later moved to Portland, Ore., and fell in love with the mountains and the coast and visited as often as she could. She is survived by three children, Steve Johnson (Karla) of Cincinnati; Bryan Johnson of Orlando, Fla., and Noel Getlin of Pensacola; and two grandchildren, Christian and Aliese Johnson.
