It is with great sadness that we announce Olga Kowalchuk entered her eternal rest peacefully at age of 96 on Monday Dec 5th, 2022 at the Ituna Pioneer Lodge.
Olga was the eldest daughter of Mike and Annie (nee Zabinski) Kozey. Born May 4th, 1926 in the Goodeve district. Olga attended Strijj School, following her schooling she remained and helped on the family farm.
She met Bill Kowalchuk when he returned from the army. They were married Sept 1, 1946. They bought land from brother Joe Kowalchuk and farmed for 6 years. In 1952 Bill and Olga sold their land and with brother-in-law Nick and sister Sophie moved to Ituna and built a locker plant & abattoir. They later added a grocery store. They retired 33 years later when they sold the store in 1985. Bill also passed away in June 1985.
During the years they were in business they travelled to many parts of Canada and U.S.A including Hawaii.
Her two most important things in her life were that she loved going to church every Sunday and early mornings. Also her unconditional love, interest and concern for her family. She was always ready to help, to advise and be there for any of them at any time. She always had a ready supply of perogies and apple pies for her grandchildren.
Olga loved curling and competed in many district bonspiels.
She was much involved in the social club and through the years served on all positions of the executive. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s league, served on the executive, helped with catering and bingos.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, cards and bingo. She was passionate about sports and keeping up with politics.
She took great pride in keeping her hedge trimmed, grass cut and flowers blooming for everyone to enjoy as they passed by.
Throughout her life she had an incredible bond with her sister Sophie. They always discussed, worked and often travelled together. They were always there for each other and for their families.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister Sophie (nee Kozey) Kowalchuk, brother Eugene (Dianne) Kozey, sister-in-law Annie (Byski) Kozey, daughter Linda (Andrew) Artymowicz, son Donald (Audrey) Kowalchuk, & son Terrence & (Barbara) Kowalchuk.
