Obituary of Anne Marie Gelowitz
Anne Gelowitz
Our precious mother, Anne Gelowitz, entered her eternal rest Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the General Hospital in Regina, at the age of 79, following a courageous battle with Covid, pneumonia, influenza and myositis.
Anne was born in February 1943, and grew up on a farm near Wapella, SK. She moved to Regina as a young adult, where she worked for many years. Mom loved to be stylish and spent her extra earnings on trips to Calgary twice a year for shopping. She was a fashion maverick, being the first woman in her office to wear pants with a zipper in the 1960s, and often talked about wrapping up her bee-hive hair each night to keep its shape for the next day.
Anne was an extremely intelligent person, particularly with numbers. Before the cellphone age, you could ask her anyone’s phone number and she knew them all. We joked that if Mom ever became interested in playing card games and learnt to count cards, none of us would ever win. Luckily for her children and grandchildren, she passed down her ability with numbers, along with her entrepreneurial spirit and ethic of hard work.
Above all else, Anne was fiercely dedicated to her children. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, always pleasantly passing along stories of their successes and challenges to her friends and family.
Anne was a feisty, spirited person. She spoke her mind and you always knew where you stood with her. If you ever see her children or grandchildren giving each other the three-fingered salute (maybe even in church), you know it is out of loving memory of her.
Anne is survived by her children - Cherie (Arlan) Frick, Scott (Jennifer) Gelowitz and Sheldon Gelowitz, seven grandchildren (Luke, Jessica, Zachary, Travis, Rachel, Rebecca, and Ryan), two sisters - Hertha and Marilyn (Brian), two brothers - Max and Art (Betty Ann), and a large and loving extended family. Anne was predeceased by her loving husband Charles, her parents Alfons and Olga Dickoff, her sister Ruth, and her in-laws Edward and Mary Gelowitz.
