Obituary of Alex ""Joe"" Frank LeBlanc
Mr. Joe LeBlanc of Calgary, Alberta and formerly of the Battlefords passed away on April 17, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 @ 2:00 p.m. from Sloan Auditorium, Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 70 with Mrs. Joyce Salie officiating. Interment will follow the luncheoan at the Veteran's Section Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Royal Canadian Legion Br # 70 Veteran's will be in attendance to conform Veteran's Rites. It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness the family announces his sudden and unexpected passing at his home in Calgary, Alberta.
Today let’s celebrate the life of a proud Canadian. Alex was a long time and very active member of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry; The Korea Veterans Association of Canada Inc and the Alberta No. 1 Royal Canadian Legion. He was a son, brother, Dad, Grandpa an even prouder Great Grandpa and dear friend.
Alex was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia where he resided until joining the Army on August 23, 1951. Before being released October 24, 1960 Alex served in the Korean War, was stationed in Calgary, Germany and Victoria.
Alex then tried his hand at farming south of Battleford in the Ibstone area. Realizing this is not what he wanted to do, Alex got a job with Poole Construction building the Comprehensive High School and reno’s to the Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford. He then moved to Calgary with Poole Construction, years later worked for Graham Construction becoming foreman while working on such buildings as the Saddle Dome and Calgary City Hall. Alex retired from his job with Graham in 1995.
Alex is survived by his son Bernard (Pat) LeBlanc; daughters Sherry LeBlanc, Nancy (Darren) Sack; sisters Dorothy (George) Hirtle, Eleanor (Harvey) Dickens; brothers Donald (Margaret) LeBlanc, Richard (Anna) LeBlanc; sisters in-law Edna, Sadie and Cheryl LeBlanc; 4 grandchildren Tammy (Les), Trevor (Ashley), Jessica (Mark) and Nicole (Casey), 4 great grandchildren Konnor, Breelynn, Landyn, and Paige, numerous nieces and nephews; one very special soul mate/lady friend of many years Pearl Hoolihan and her daughter Cindy.
Alex is predeceased by his parents Mildred and Bernard Joseph LeBlanc; wife Grace (Bohse); brothers Matthew, Lawrence, Billy and Tommy LeBlanc; sisters in-law Dorothy LeBlanc and son in-law Don Smith.
Arrangements for the late Joe LeBlanc have been entrusted to Trevor Watts of Eternal Memories Funeral Service & Crematorium.
