Obituary of Michael James George
GEORGE, Michael James - 51, 39 Napean St., Port Hawkesbury, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, March 19, 2005. Born in Arichat and grew up on Janvrin's Island, he was a beloved son of Edmond and Lorraine (McGrath) George, Port Hawkesbury. Mike was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Besides his parents, he is survived by his loving wife, Valerie (Savoy); daughter, Gillian; brother, Eric (Donna), Port Hawkesbury; sisters, Donna, Yarmouth; Gwen (Lawrence) Fougere, Augusta, Ga.; Susan (Steve) Pineo, Medicine Hat, Alta.; Daphne (Ronnie) MacDonald and Kimberly George, all of Port Hawkesbury; numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was an active member of the Port Hawkesbury Volunteer Fire Department and a member of St. Joseph's Parish. He was employed at Store Enso for the past 32 years and was a member of the Communications Energy and Paperworkers Union, Local 972. He enjoyed RVing, boats, and spending time with his family and friends. He is also a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 8:30 p.m. this evening, all in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Father Bill Crispo officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in Mike's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
