Obituary of Elizabeth MacDonald

Elizabeth Rose MacDonald December 6, 1938- August 31, 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elizabeth Rose MacDonald on August 31, 2022 at the Milford Haven Nursing Home in Guysborough, Nova Scotia. Born and raised in Goshen, NS, to Robert and Bertha MacNaughton, Elizabeth was the eldest of three children. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Stanley MacDonald, her brother Alistair MacNaughton, and brother-in-law Al Johnson. She is survived by: son, Sandy (Sherry) of Lesterdale and their children, Jessica, Justin, and Maria; daughter, Eleanor (James Hannigan) of Burns Lake, BC and her children Kaelyn, Janna, and Alea and great grandson, Ryker; daughter Cairine (Joe Jurus) of Milton, ON and their children Eilidh, Sophie, and Katherine; and son Colin (Lorraine Mosey) of Dartmouth and their daughter Regan. She is also survived by her sister Jean Johnson of St. Thomas, ON, sister-in-law, Lynn MacNaughton of Aylesford, and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth graduated from Mount Allison University in 1961 with a degree in Home Economics and began her teaching career in Guysborough where she met and married Stanley. They were married for 49 years. She was a devoted wife to her husband and a model of graciousness and hospitality to family and friends. Well known in her community for her baking, she was generous in sharing it; she often delivered apple muffins to local businesses, and she always had a sweet in the house for any visitor. Her family will miss her Delicious Cake that she made for every birthday. She was a wonderful baker even if she didn’t always share the "real" recipe. She loved to tell stories. She spent hours on the Goshen Book that tells the story of her MacNaughton and Fraser family. She compiled a family cookbook filled with recipes that tells the story of her life as a daughter, mother, and grandmother. She gave us so many gifts: a love of reading, a love of gardening, and a love of baking. Above all, she loved and cherished her family. Visitation will be held in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough on Sunday, September 11th from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be at St. Ann’s Church, Guysborough on Monday, September 12th at 10 am; and the burial of ashes will follow at 3 pm in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Port Hood. Memorial donations to honour Elizabeth can be made to either the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to St. Ann’s Parish Building Fund.
