Obituary of Gettis Harris, Jr.

Gettis Harris, Jr. Native of Currituck Co., NC Gettis Harris, Jr., 75, of 356 N. Spot Road, Powells Point, NC died Sunday morning, November 24, 2002, in the Sentara Barco Nursing Home. He was born in Currituck County to the late Gettis and Ruth Mercer Harris and was the widower of the late Wilma Sawyer Bohannon Harris. Mr. Harris was retired from the Ford Motor Company, a member of the Powells Point Baptist Church and member of the Currituck Masonic Lodge #463 AF & AM. He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ann Perry of Powells Point, NC and Dottie B. Jordan of Aydlett, NC; two sons, Gettis Michael Harris of Harbinger, NC and William P. Bohannon III of Bladenboro, NC; three sisters, Elma George, Frances Moore both of Virginia Beach, VA and Gloria Poyner of Coinjock, NC; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday morning, November 27, 2002, at 11:00am in the Powells Point Baptist Church by Revs. Eugene McLawhorn and Larry Benson. The family will be at 356 N. Spot Road, Powells Point. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, Church St., Elizabeth City is in charge of arrangements.
