Obituary of Luther Douglas Holmes

L. Douglas Holmes, 76, of 104 Scotland Drive, Elizabeth City died Wednesday night, December 11, 2002, in the Winslow Memorial Home. He was born in Pasquotank County to the late Edward Wallace and Beuna Vista Brinson Holmes. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, a member of the Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church and served in World War II with the merchant marines. He is survived by his wife, Lora Fay Norfleet Holmes of the home, two daughters, Ellen Holmes Russell of Elizabeth City, NC and Teresa Holmes Richardson of Simpsonville, NC; three sons, Terry Douglas Holmes of Shreveport, LA, Mark Alan Holmes of Elizabeth City and Kevin Paul Holmes of Raleigh, NC; and nine grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday evening, December 14, 2002, from 7:00 until 8:30pm at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC. There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
