Madeline Dunham Benton, age 82, of 120 Beech Tree Drive, Shiloh, NC, died Monday, February 17, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Warren County, TN, daughter of the late Frank Boyd and Minnie Prater Dunham and was the widow of the late Charles Wesley Benton. She was a retired public school teacher having taught in Puerto Rico, Florida, Central High School in Elizabeth City, NC, and Camden High School, and was a life time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Juanita Chapter #1, San Juan Puerto Rico, for 50yrs., and a past worthy matron.
Mrs. Benton is survived by a son, Mike Benton and wife Joy of South Mills, NC; three granddaughters, Terra Cartwright and husband Bryan of Whiteman AFB, Missouri, Michelle Ellis and husband Tony of Travis AFB, California, and Heidi Benton of South Mills, NC; a sister-in-law, Betty Dunham of Florida and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother, Velma D. Taylor and Frank B Dunham, Jr.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 2:00 pm in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, with the Pastor Dave Combs and Mr. Brian Forehand officiating. Rites will be performed by the Order of the Eastern Star, Camden Chapter, #252 OES, following the service the family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home.
