Obituary of Alice S. Baker

Alice Marie Sawyer Baker Pasquotank County native Alice Marie Sawyer Baker, age 71, of 1339 Bluff Point Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Albemarle Hospital. Mrs. Baker, a native of Pasquotank County, NC, was the widow of Jesse James Baker and the daughter of the late Mack Bell Sawyer and Lina Harrington Sawyer Brickhouse. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and was an inserter for the Daily Advance. Mrs. Baker is survived by two daughters, Tina Marie Batteiger of the residence and Margaret Lynn McNary of South Mills, NC; two sons, Mark Albert Baker and Thomas Andrew Murrell both of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother Thomas Mack Sawyer, Sr., of Elizabeth City, NC; and seventeen grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be Monday, April 14, 2003, at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Minister Oliver Cartwright officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel and at other times at the residence of her brother, Thomas Mack Sawyer, Sr., 688 Body Road, Elizabeth City, NC. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, is in charge of arrangements.
