Obituary of James W. Ballance, Sr.

James Wilson Ballance, Sr., age 68 of 1177 Lynch’s Corner Rd., Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Pasquotank Co., NC; son of the late Grady Wilson and Sally Ann Parker Ballance and was the husband of Marjorie Lacy Ballance of the residence. He was a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church and was a retired carpenter. Mr. Ballance is survived by three daughters, Brenda Inge of Chesapeake, VA, and Lisa Key and Melinda Ford, both of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, James ‘Buddy’ Ballance, Jr. of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Mildred O’Neal of Williamsburg, VA and Mary Spruill of Elizabeth City, NC; three brothers, Jimmy Ballance and Leonard Ballance, both of Elizabeth City, NC and Preston Ballance of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Sawyer and Estelle Smith. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, June 9 at 11:00 AM in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. David Benton officiating. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC on Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and at other times at the residence of his son, Mr. and Mrs. James Ballance, Jr. 1225 Lynch’s Corner Rd., Elizabeth City, NC .
