Obituary of Gladys Tootle Vanscoy

Gladys Mae Tootle Vanscoy Retired LPN Mrs. Gladys Mae Tootle Vanscoy, age 77, of 114 Aline Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. Vanscoy was the wife of Howard Randolph Vanscoy of the residence and the daughter of the late Malcolm Emory Tootle and Carrie Mae Banks Tootle Turner. A native of Vidalia, GA, she was a member of Salem Baptist Church, a local bowling league, and a retired LPN from the Albemarle Hospital. Besides her husband she is survived by three sons, Marion Edward Barker of Tampa, FL, Emory Glenn Barker of Portsmouth, VA, and Johnny Lee Barker of Shiloh, NC; a step-son, Lawrence R. Vanscoy of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Dorothy Buchannan of Charlotte, NC; a brother, George Tootle of Belvidere, SC; 7 grand children; and four great grand children. A funeral service will be Monday, June 23, 2003, at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Michael Jordan officiating. Entombment will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Sunday and in the lobby of the funeral home immediately after the service and at other times at the residence. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, is in charge of arrangements.
