Obituary of Thomas “Tommy” W. Sawyer

Elizabeth City, NC Thomas ‘Tommy’ W. Sawyer, age 68, 402 Carter Rd., Elizabeth City, NC died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Camden County, NC; son of the late George E. ‘Buck’ and Nancy Johnson Sawyer and retired from Sprint. He was former director of the Elizabeth City Boys Club and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a member of the first graduating class of Camden High School and a veteran, having served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Sawyer is survived by two daughters, JO1(AW) Lori Sawyer of Norfolk, VA and Mindy Sawyer Wiggins and her husband, James, of Greenville, NC; three sisters, Elsie Godfrey of Elizabeth City, NC, Faye Sawyer of South Mills, NC, and Bessie Needham of Shiloh, NC; two grandchildren, Zachary Tyler Wiggins and Austin Wiggins and fianc, Connie Cox. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Margaret Sawyer and a brother, George Ernest Sawyer, Jr. A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Adren Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemeterywith Military honors provided by the William Clarence Jackson Post # 6060 of V. F. W. Twifords Memorial Chapel, 405 E.
