Obituary of David Lawrence

RALEIGH, NC DAVID HOWE LAWRENCE, 84, died September 8, 2003 in Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC. The son of Harry C. Lawrence and Helen Norbeck Lawrence, he was a longtime resident of the Outer Banks. An Engineer and surveyor, he was also engaged actively in real estate and construction, and was one of the original owners of Sea Scape Golf Course in Kitty Hawk. Following retirement, he worked with the Dare County Department of Parks and Recreation. He attended public schools in Manteo and New Bern, NC. After two years at Belmont Abby College he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force for service during WWII, and following the war earned his engineering degrees from NC State College. Mr. Lawrence is survived by two daughters, Barbara L. Wells of Oxford, MD and husband, Ken Wells; and Susan R. Lawrence of Chapel Hill; a step daughter, Julia M. Daniels of Chapel Hill; one sister, Joan ‘Joie’ Bullock of Corapeake, and husband, Jeff Bullock, Sr.; his former wife, Martha Akin Lawrence of Chapel Hill; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Joseph Klaus at 11:00 am, on Saturday, September 13th in the Baum Cemetery, Elijah Baum Road, Kitty Hawk.
