Obituary of William C. Sawyer
William Charles Sawyer, age 66, of 117 Camden Avenue, Camden, NC, died Friday, February 6, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Sawyer, a native of Camden, was the husband of Bess Tillitt Godfrey Sawyer of the residence and the son of the late William Henry Sawyer and Maxine Walston Sawyer. He graduated from Camden County High School and attended College of the Alblemarle. He served in the NC National Guard and worked at C. E. Thurston for twenty five years before becoming a farmer. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, the Couples’ Class, choir, and a former deacon. He served as a volunteer fireman and in 1979 he received the Fireman of the Year Award.
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Helene Sawyer of Harbinger, NC; two sisters, Maude Elizabeth Staples, and husband Alton, of Wendell, NC, and Linda Ann Demuth of Melbourne, Australia; a brother, Thomas Irving Sawyer and wife Barbara, of South Mills, NC; two grandsons, Robert A. Taylor and Charles William Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Maxine Gray and Jean Claire Sawyer.
A correction on funeral day and time has been made, a memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2003 at 4:00 pm in Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Dave Combs and Rev. Irvin Acree officiating. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 3:00 in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the church, in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, and at other times at the residence.
