Juana Zafra

Obituary of Juana Zafra

Manteo Juana R. Zafra, 88, passed away Monday, February 9, 2004 at 12:30 A.M. at Albemarle Hospital. ‘Mama Juanita,’ as she was known by her family and friends, was born in Humachuco Peru, South America. She was the beloved wife of Julio Zafra, Sr., mother of Julio Zafra, Jr. and wife, Enma, Norma Barreto and husband Juan, Noelia Zafra, Blanca Horton, Juan Zafra and wife Dons, and Maria Serna and husband Angel. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; she was preceded in death by one great-grandchild. Mrs. Zafra will be remembered as a very compassionate, strong-willed, gentle and loving woman by everyone who knew her. She remained strong despite the countless surgeries and for the longest time, refused to leave us. Every doctor that saw her was amazed by her strength and will to keep fighting. At this time it is hard for us to express how much she really meant to all of us, and everything we will miss about her, but we are comforted knowing that she is home with Jesus, finally at peace. Thank you to all the people who helped care for Juana and contributed to keeping her with us for so long. The family will hold a memorial service at her residence, 116 Joclar Lane, Manteo, on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at 3:30 pm with Father Joseph Klause officiating. Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo is assisting the family with arrangements. Visit www.twifordfh.com to sign the online register.
