Obituary of Charles Mathews

Charles N. Mathews, Sr. Chesapeake ‘ Charles Norris Mathews Sr., 81, died Feb. 18, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Mathews was born in South Mills, NC to the late Agnes Norris and Phillip Moore Mathews. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and later worked for the Naval Shipyard as a supervisor in the Boiler Shop. Mr. Mathews was a member of Great Bridge UMC, Great Bridge Masonic Lodge #257, the Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Khedive Temple. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jean Williams Mathews; daughter, Meredith M. Holland of Rocky Mount, NC; sons, Charles N. Mathews, Jr. of Hyattsville, MD, James L. Mathews of Spotsylvania, VA, and Glenn M. Mathews and wife Sheila of Manhattan, KS; and six grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Forrest Lawn Cemetery with the Reverend Bradley S. Dulaney officiating.
