Obituary of Dr. Andrew F. Horne
SOUTHERN SHORES, NC
DR. ANDREW F. HORNE, of Southern Shores, NC died on Wednesday, March 24,2004 at the age of 74. Dr. Horne spent his entire medical career in the service of his country. He was a Board Certified Flight Surgeon with the Public Health Service with primary duty to the Coast Guard, where he obtained the rank of Captain. His duty stations included Elizabeth City, NC, Port Angeles, WA, Pensacola, FL, Washington, DC, and Kodiak, AK. After retirement he entered civil service in Washington, DC as a Medical Officer and Aerospace Medical Specialist with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Dr. Horne was born in Bluefield, WV on July 2, 1929. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Davidson College, a Master of Science degree in Public Health from West Virginia University, and a medical degree from Duke University.
His survivors include his wife, Kathy of Southern Shores; daughter and son-in-law Becky and Rick Elliott of Claremore, OK; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Andrew and Karen Horne of Kitty Hawk; son, David Horne of Kodiak, AK; and his brother Captain Bill Horne, USN RET., and wife, Ellen of New Orleans, LA. He is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren, Melissa and Andrew Horne of Kitty Hawk, Kyle and Hannah Elliott of Claremore, OK, and Brittany Horne of Kodiak, AK.
Graveside services will be held at the Southern Shores Cemetery on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donation to Ducks Unlimited or the charity of your choice.
