Obituary of Irene Payne

PAYNE MANTEO, N.C. IRENE QUIDLEY PAYNE, 72, of Manteo, died, Sunday, March 28, 2004, in Elizabeth City. Mrs. Payne was born in Manteo and was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Rowan and Grace Midgett Quidley and the wife of the late Hezekiah Frank Payne, Sr. Surviving are seven daughters; Frankie P. Self of Elizabeth City, Lana Martinez, Larri Peyton, Diane Flynt and Donna Willis all of Manteo, Elizabeth Rowe of Manns Harbor and Maxine Richards of Deery, N.H., one son; Hezekiah ‘Buddy’ Payne, Jr of Manteo, one step-daughter; Norma Etheridge of Manteo and one step-son; William ‘Billy’ Payne of Boone, N.C., three sisters; Lela Jones of Portsmouth, Va, Lois Twyne and Jean Godfrey both of Manteo, three brothers; Odell Quidley of Powells Point, Charles Quidley and Earl Quidley both of Manteo and Ralph Sears of Grandy. 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in Twiford’s Colony Chapel by the Rev Glenn Greenway with burial in Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens.
