Obituary of Herman Cox

Herman Lee Cox, Sr. Pasquotank County native Mr. Herman Lee Cox, Sr., of 1912 Savin Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday morning, March 31, 2004, in the Albemarle Hospital after a short illness. He was a native and life long resident of Pasquotank County and the son of the late James Enoch Cox and Lillian Thornton Cox. He was a retired captain with the Elizabeth City Police Department with thirty-six years of service, a member of Corinth Baptist Church, and a member of the Pasquotank County Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Vandegrift Cox of the residence; three sons, Herman Cox, Jr., and wife Madeline, and James W. Cox and wife Diana, all of Elizabeth City, NC, and Charles P. Cox and wife Cathy of Greenville, NC; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A funeral service will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 2, 2004, at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Dr. Roy Head officiating. A private burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence of the son, Mr. & Mrs. Herman L. Cox, Jr., 104 Timber Trail, Elizabeth City, NC.
