Obituary of Col. Robert Oliver

Southern Shores Col. Robert Terrence Oliver, 67, died on Monday, May 10, 2004 at his home following a brief battle with cancer. Col. Oliver was born in Indianapolis, IN. Col. Oliver was retired from the U.S. Army after thirty years of service, including two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and the Outer Banks Kiwanis Club. Col. Oliver was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Oliver of Pebble Beach, CA, and the late Lucille Westerfield Oliver and the husband of Caroline Campbell Oliver of Southern Shores. Besides, his wife, he is survived by five sons; Scott and Karren Oliver of Linden, VA, Todd Oliver and Craig Vicens of Seattle, WA, David and Lisa Oliver of Juneau, AK, Mark and Candy Johnson of Fort Belvoir, VA and Jay and Stephanie McNamara of Great Bridge, VA; one sister, JoAnne Minnick of Boise, ID; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kalla, Brian, Derek, Margot, and A.J; one great grandson, Jayce and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Kay Oliver. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Saturday, May 15, 2004 at 11:00 AM with Father Joseph Klaus officiating.
