Obituary of Robert Austin
Hatteras, NC
Robert Lawrence Austin, 85, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Sentara Barco Nursing Home. Mr. Austin was born in Hatteras and was a carpenter. He was a member of the Hatteras Assembly of God Church and a member of the VFW. His military service includes, serving as a SGT with the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the 2nd Ranger Infantry Battalion and participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy Beach. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Mr. Austin was the son of the late Henry Bunyan Austin and the late Minerva Wedmore Austin Austin and was the widower of Joyce Busby Austin.
He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer A. Stowe and husband Bill of Raleigh; two sisters, Margaret Bateman of Arapahoe, NC and Wilma Austin of New Bern, NC. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna, Elaine and half-sister, Olivia; also preceding him in death are three brothers, Arthur, John Littleton, Wilbur and half-brother, Zach.
A graveside service will be held at the Family Cemetery at 57305 Eagle Pass Road, Hatteras, on Friday, May 28, 2004 at 2:00 Pm with Rev. John Cullop and Rev. Jim Reynolds officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday at Twiford’s Island Chapel, Hatteras, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The family will be meeting at the home of Monroe Stowe, 57084 Kohler Road, Hatteras, at other times.
