Obituary of Phillip Gaskins

Elizabeth City, NC Phillip Ashton Gaskins, age 50, of 1608 Penny Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died at his residence on Saturday, July 10, 2004. Born in Pasquotank County, NC, he was the son of Margaret ‘Peggy’ Davis Simons of Elizabeth City, NC, and the late Melvin Kendrick Gaskins. He was a graduate of Northeastern High School in 1972, and was a sales clerk in the paint department at Lowe’s. Besides his mother, Mr. Gaskins is survived by his step-father Alvah ‘Bud’ Simons; one brother Melvin David Gaskins and wife Karen of Chesapeake, VA; and life friend Charles ‘Chuck’ Carey of Elizabeth City, NC. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his maternal grand parents, Carroll and Nellie Trueblood Davis, and paternal grand parents, John Ellis and Edna Mann Gaskins. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday July 14, 2004, at 2:00 P. M. at Twiford Memorial Chapel in Elizabeth City, N. C., with Rev Roger Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will join friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 P. M. to 8:30 P. M. at Twiford Funeral Home 405 East Church Street, and following the funeral service in the funeral home lobby.
