Obituary of Thelma Spruill

Thelma Sykes Spruill, 80, of 1118 Four Forks Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday afternoon July 29, 2004, at the home of her son and daughter in law, Carl and Judy Spruill. Mrs. Spruill was born May 6, 1924, in Martin County, NC, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Payton and Ella Isolind Biggs Sykes. She was preceded in death by her husband Haywood Spruill, Sr. Mrs Spruill was a former sales clerk and Department Manager with W.T. Grants and Rose’s Department Stores, and a member of the Forest Park Church of God. Survivors include her daughter Thelma S. Childers and her husband Clyde of Charlotte, NC, and three sons Dick Spruill and wife Barbara, Carl Spruill and wife Judy all of Elizabeth City, NC and Haywood Spruill, Jr., of Winter Haven, Florida, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Sunday August 1, 2004, at 3:00 P. M. in the Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street Elizabeth City, NC, with Mitchell Edwards and Scott Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will join friends Saturday July 31, 2004 from 7:00 P. M. to 8:00 P.M. at Twiford Funeral Home and following the service in the funeral home parlor, and other times at 1118 Four Forks Road.
