Obituary of Andrew Creekmore

Manteo- Andrew T Creekmore, 86, died on August 1, 2004 in the Outer Banks Hospital at Nags Head. He was surrounded by his family. A native of Moyock, he was the son of the late William Hillary and Alpine Flora Creekmore and was the widower of Eunice Butler Creekmore. Andrew grew up in Moyock in a sea of relatives and loved the Currituck area. He particularly loved the water and fishing. He had a lot of experiences in his 86 plus years. In 1935, he briefly attended Mars Hill College. In 1936 he graduated from Norfolk Business College and worked at the Ford Plant for 9 months in 1937. He worked at Armour Meats for 4 years as a salesman, which he loved. He joined the Navy in 1941 and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After the war, he took the GI bill and became an electrician at the Norfolk Naval Base. In 1954 he returned to Moyock and joined his brother, William, to run Creekmore Brothers Store. It was very sweet to return home. He became a rural mail carrier in 1963. Andrew retired in 1979 and moved to Manteo to be near his grandchildren and the wonderful waters of North Carolina. He enjoyed traveling the country in a travel trailer. He and Eunice were very active with the senior fellowship. Andrew was a member of Moyock United Methodist Church for most of his life. In Manteo, he joined Mt Olivet United Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Linda C. Brown of Manteo, and his son Andrew T. Creekmore Jr of Cary; a sister, Mollie C Winslow of Moyock; five grandchildren; Angie B. Fentress, Amy C. Bohannon, Kenneth Brown, Andrew Creekmore III, and Matt Brown, and six great-grand children; Jordan Fentress, Will Brown, Lee Fentress, Madison Lewis, Jake Brown, and Abigail Bohannon. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 11:30 AM at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo, NC. Burial will be in Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens. The family invites relatives and friends for lunch at the residence, 145 Meekins Drive in Manteo following the funeral.
